David and his son Josh are the North East’s go to photographers for Family Portraits. At their Sunderland based studio, they offer you the chance to capture those precious moments of you and your family. If you want beautiful pictures to cherish forever, then look no further!
David and Josh are a father & son team with over 45 years of experience between them photographing family portraits. To date they have photographed over 12,000 families since opening their studio in 1984.
David & Josh are also proud to say they are winners of the prestigious “North East & UK Family Portrait Photographer of the Year” award.
David & Josh have their own unique approach when it comes to taking you and your families pictures. At their state of the art studio, they have all of the backgrounds, clothes and props to hand to personalise your session.
They capture timeless, natural and uniquely creative pictures of your family. As you will see, we never do one shoot the same but if you would like to recreate a shot you’ve seen, please let us know!
David & Josh have their own unique approach to wedding photography and their style changes with you. They are known for those jaw-dropping shots that you would see on the cover of a high end magazine mixed in with those natural, intimate pictures of the two of you.
Don’t worry they aren’t all serious! We like to have a lot of fun and get everyone on the guest list involved in the photos.
What to expect
David and Josh have perfectly planned out your experience from start to finish. From the initial consultation to handing over your beautiful pictures, they will look after you every step of the way.
Let us know why you are having these pictures taken. Is it for a special occasion or just you have never had a professional photoshoot taken before. David & Josh will ask you what kind of pictures you’d like taking.
They will talk you through what outfits to bring, what combinations work best and what they can offer before, during and after the photoshoot. They want to personalise your experience as much as possible.
David or Josh will be be there to welcome you to the studio on arrival. They will take you up to their state of the art studio and talk you what will happen over the next 60 minutes. They will take and capture a stunning mixture of fun/natural pictures along with the..
Usually 2-3 Weeks after your photoshoot, you will be invited back to the studio to see the best pictures from your session. So sit back and relax as you watch your pictures on the big screen.
Try to hold the tears back as you relive each moment. David or Josh will talk you through their handmade and bespoke products for you to choose from.
David and Josh have hand selected of the most amazing products for you to choose from. They have a fabulous selection of Wall Frames, Albums, Memory Boxes, Desk Portraits and Prints for you to order on the day of your viewing. There are a variety of different finishes and extras they offer with each product too.

Our Families

More about your session
Our studio is perfect for families big and small. We can hold up to 20 people and still have space to spare. We will take a fabulous selection of pictures of you, from individual portraits to group combinations.
We make it fun and engaging for young kids, teenagers, parents and grandparents. Everyone should leave with a smile on their face. Your photoshoot will last up to 60 minutes and we will take a variety of natural, fun, artistic and creative shots for you to choose from.
When it comes to clothing, we get asked all the time what to wear. We would advise you to call come in similar clothes. White or Black T Shirts/Shirts and Blue or Black Jeans are always a must for the family pictures.
After those pictures, you can change into your best dress, your favourite jacket/suit, your kids can bring in their favourite outfits too or any outfits from their sports/hobbies. We will personalise the shoot to you and will talk about ideas with you over the phone and on the day of session.
To book a family portrait with us, please choose one of our special offers and purchase it over the phone or through our website. This is to secure your booking and we can then look at our availability for you.
After booking your date, we will send through a confirmation email and a text 24-48 hours before your session. We know things come up unexpectedly, but please try to let us know 24 hours before if you need to cancel or rearrange your session. There is parking outside the studio for up to 1 hour. Also when you come through the front door, please press the buzzer to let us know you have arrived.
