⚽️❤️ A special one for me today — standing with my uncle, Sunderland AFC legend Gordon Armstrong, at a game this season.

For those who don’t know, Gordon scored that famous FA Cup goal against Chelsea in ’92, and he’ll always be remembered as one of Sunderland’s greats. But beyond the football, he’s always been an inspiration and I’m proud to call him family.

I’m hugely thankful to have him as an uncle!

(And for any of our Newcastle United followers reading this… don’t worry, I won’t rub it in too much. 😉)

🎾When we’re not behind the camera, you’ll often find my dad and I out on the padel court. It’s our way of switching off, having a laugh, and a bit of friendly competition (he still swears he’s the better player 😉).

Photography has always been the thing that connects us as father and son — but padel is another way we keep that bond strong. Just like in the studio, it’s all about timing, teamwork, and capturing the perfect shot (only this time it’s the ball, not the moment!).

👋 Hello to all our old and new followers!

I’m Josh from David Lawson Photography Studios in Sunderland. Many of you will know us as a father-and-son team — I’ve been lucky enough to learn the craft of photography from my dad, David, and now we get to work side by side every day.

Photography has always been more than just taking pictures for me. I love capturing the moments people treasure most — whether that’s weddings, families, new arrivals, pets, or the excitement of an event. Every shoot is different, and that’s what keeps me inspired.

Outside of the studio, I’m passionate about creativity, design, and meeting new people. I’m also looking forward to growing what we do here — from new portrait experiences and commercial projects, to expanding more of our work in Spain where we’re building something really exciting for the future.

Over the coming months and years, my goal is simple: to keep creating meaningful photography that tells people’s stories, to bring fresh ideas into the studio, and to continue building on the amazing 40-year legacy my dad started.

✨ Holly & Haydon’s Wedding at Slaley Hall ✨

This one was really special for me to photograph. I’ve gotten to know Holly over the years through working with her on weddings and wedding shows at Slaley Hall, so to be asked to capture her own wedding day was such an honour. 💍

Holly & Haydon are such a brilliant couple — and their day was a perfect reflection of who they are. From the elegant setting of Slaley Hall to the personal touches they added throughout, everything felt uniquely “them.”

One of my favourite details? Their love for Japanese cars 🚘🇯🇵 Haydon’s passion for fixing them up, paired with Holly bringing along her own car, made for some incredible and very them wedding photos.

It was a day filled with laughter, love, and plenty of style — and I couldn’t be happier for these two. Here’s to a lifetime together ❤️

✨ Phil & Charlotte’s Love Story ✨

From the moment I met Phil & Charlotte at the St James’ Park Wedding Show, I knew they’d be a joy to photograph. We first captured their engagement-style photoshoot at the beautiful Longhoughton Beach with their dog Jasper 🐾 — full of laughter, windswept moments, and that unmistakable bond between them.

Fast forward to their wedding day — what a celebration! 💍

What a day! From the moment Abby walked down the aisle to the last dance under the twinkling lights, their wedding at The Old Barn, South Causey Inn was filled with love, laughter, and so many unforgettable moments.

I’ve had the privilege of being part of their journey — first photographing their son as a newborn in our studio, then their engagement shoot at Gibside 🌿, and now their wedding day surrounded by family and friends. Watching their story unfold through my lens has been something truly special.
