What is Press and PR Photography?

Press Photography covers a wide spectrum. Media Photography or Photojournalism is a professional photographer who captures images of current stories. For example events or newsworthy occurrences for news agencies, printed newspapers, magazines, and news websites. Furthermore, for longer term reportage or documentary style pieces, the term photojournalist is a wider used term. However, press photography and photojournalism often cross over during the course of work.

PR Photography is essentially a form of commercial photography with a news angle. A PR photographer is commissioned to create images for a business, organisation or individual’s news usage. These images are used with press releases or for public relations use. These help to enhance press coverage in newspapers, magazines and more increasingly social media online.

A picture can tell a thousand words, this couldn’t be truer with PR photography. As a result, a well-crafted image can often elevate a PR story.

How we won the award?

We photographed the opening of Omega PLC’s new facility. The Special guest was H.R.H Sophie Countess of Wessex. David submitted this picture for the Master Photographers Association to judge. Out of some fantastic pictures and lots of competitors, David finished top of the class to claim this award.
